The Health Gap in the United Kingdom

The 2026 EGYM Hussle 'Work is Health' study surveyed 4000 employees globally to examine how businesses must adapt to their employees' needs to ensure long-term success: becoming what we refer to as 'Future Fit' employers. The results reveal a clear gap between what employees experience and what they expect.

Work has changed dramatically since the pandemic. Flexible working has increased, with a significant blurring of the boundaries between work and private life. In many sectors, the workload has increased or become much more intense. Mental health issues are now the biggest risk and also the most frequent reason for early retirement – and there is a connection between exercise, physical activity, and mental wellbeing. 

This report provides an in-depth analysis of the current state of UK workforce wellbeing, and a 10-step action plan to build structural protection into a lived workplace culture.
